Leinster Colleges SFC: Mullingar safely through

February 01, 2012
Colaiste Mhuire, Mullingar will face Dublin outfit Colaiste Eoin in the last eight of the Leinster Colleges SFC after overcoming Colaiste Iosagain in Portarlington yesterday.

Coláiste Mhuire 2-12
Coláiste Íosagáin 1-8

The Westmeath side led by 1-6 to 0-5 at the break thanks to a goal from full forward Shane Dempsey. They looked set for a comfortable victory when Killian Daly added a second goal, but the home side refused to lie down and were awarded a penalty for a rash challenge on corner forward Padraig Kelly with 10 minutes remaining.

At that stage, only five points separated the sides, but Colaiste Iosagain midfielder Dean Barron failed to close the gap when he blazed wide and from the kick-out, Colaiste Mhuire tore down the field for David Whelan to send over his third point and leave six in it.

The winners will need to show improvement for their trip to Templeogue to face Coláiste Eoin in the quarter-final on Saturday week.
