McNulty outlines plans

New Laois football manager Justin McNulty has vowed to leave no stone unturned in his bid to unearth new talent.

Speaking to the local media after attending last weekend's local championship games in Portlaoise, the former Armagh full back said: "I'm looking for good players, players who can step up to county level. It's very simple. Good players who are honest and committed and do whatever it takes to be successful with Laois. It's an absolute blank canvas. We won't be going on reputation, players will be judged purely on merit.

"If you're good enough to play county football it doesn't matter what level you play at with your club. If you're good enough to play with Laois and you have the right attitude then you'll be considered."

McNulty said he is relishing the chance of managing the O'Moore County.

"I see it as an unbelievable opportunity. Laois is a county with a rich football tradition, a county that's very passionate about its football, a county with lots of potential. Certainly I think it's an ambitious county and that's something I think makes it all the more challenging and something I'm eager to get involved in.

"From my own experience last year (when he was a selector with Armagh), we were very lucky to get out of jail when we played Laois here in the league. We didn't deserved to win that night. I was very impressed by the players that night. I probably see them as a team that has been close to the cusp of success but never really got over the hill.

"I'd say the players and managers alike would say they haven't performed to the level they're capable of performing. I've no idea what's missing and I don't think it's fair for me to say what's missing because I haven't been involved you can't establish."

He continued: "I want to get the right people for the job, people who I can work with, people who can bring something to the table in bringing Laois football forward."
