Ladies ousted by Lilywhites

July 03, 2009
Laois Ladies lost out on a place in this year's Leinster SFC decider after faltering to a late comeback from Kildare last Sunday at Portloaise by 3-18 to 3-12. Kildare started the game brightly, which ultimately led them towards a half-time lead of two points, but they could have been out of sight were into not for the scores of Martina Dunne, Noirin Kirwan and Mary Kirwan's goal that kept the O'Moore women in the game. Kildare flew out of the traps after the restart with frees from Aisling Jennings and a goal from Deirdre Gatley. Laois responded well with points from their front women before putting the pressure to force an own goal from Kildare full-back Orla O'Shea. The hosts looked to be on their way to victory when Grace Weston fired in their third goal, but points from Aoife Herbert and Noelle Earley forced extra-time, from where Kildare hit a late 1-1 to snatch the win.
