Clough-Ballacolla threaten further action
June 19, 2009
Clough-Ballacolla temporarily withdrew their players from intercounty activities last weekend and say they could do so again.
The club opted to make players unavailable to both the Laois senior and minor panels after being forced to play a Division One game on Friday and a Division Three final on Saturday, with seven players involved in both games. There was also county training on the Thursday night.
They have since allowed their members to resume county training, but club secretary Liam Dunne is adamant that things will have to change to avoid a repeat withdrawal:
"We feel there is no-one looking after the players' interests. We're sick of getting our county players back after they have been trained hard the night before.
"The nights we have them are probably the nights they should be resting up watching television.
"We would be prepared to take similar action again and it is something we'll be bringing up at the club forum next Monday night."
