Paddy Dunne Cup

June 08, 2009
The Paddy Dunne Memorial Cup kicked off last Thursday night with a cracking game between host club Courtwood and Arles Killeen. After an even first quarter an excellent Thomas Behan goal helped his side to a half time lead of 1-4 to 0-6. After opening up a four point lead early in the second half, Courtwood were eventually undone by the brilliance of Donie Brennan who finished the game with a tally of 1-7 from play as his side ran out winners of a highly entertaining game, 1-11 to 1-9. The tournament continues tonight (Monday) in Courtwood at 8 pm when the beaten finalists in last year's intermediate football championship finals in Laois and Kildare will meet. Park Ratheniska and Monasterevan last year just missed out on promotion to the top flight of football in their respective counties so tonight's game should be an interesting hour's football. The cup for this tournament commemorates one of Courtwood's greatest players of the past, who sadly passed away in April, 2004.
