Ryan set for Laois minor hurling job
November 14, 2008
Tony Ryan is to be appointed as Laois' new minor hurling manager at next Monday night's meeting of the County Board.
Ryan has been involved with the county's juvenile structure for several years now and is thought to have already chosen an impressive backroom team that includes former Loughmore-Castleiney manager Eamon Sweeney as well as Tom Flynn (The Harps) and Martin Cashen (Portlaoise).
"I am delighted to be taking over," said Ryan "I've done a lot of work with juveniles in the county for the last five or six years and have been co-ordinating with the development squads since 2003. I won an Under 16 'B' All-Ireland with this squad, so I know the lads well. I'm serious abut the job, and I'm always serious hurling, so hopefully it will go well."
Meanwhile, Mattie Collier, who has been a selector with the county's minors for the last number of years, is expected to make the move up and be appointed to the O'Moore County's Under 21 hurlers at next week's meeting.
