Fr. Murphy's back with a bang

October 06, 2008
Reigning London Ladies Football Champions Fr Murphy's stormed back into the 2008 championship with an empathic win over Parnells. Fr Murphy's, smarting from an early round defeat by Tara, came back in style to record a 4-9 to 1-8 victory over Parnell's as anything less than a win would have put them out of contention. The Murphy's, excellently led by Karen Keating, were not going to surrender their title so easily. An early goal by Anne Marie O'Dwyer settled them and were cruising coming up to half time, but just one lapse allowed Sharon Lynch to goal for Parnells leaving the score 1-6 to 1-3 at half time in favour of Fr Murphy's. After the break the girls in purple and gold decided to put their opponents away with goals from Shauna Keogh, Niamh Keane and Shauna McMenamin. Parnells, try as they might, could not breach Murphy's solid blanket like defence. The quest for the championship is a three team race now, with Tara playing Parnells and Fr Murphy's playing KKG, with both games set for next Sunday. Tara, Parnell's and Fr Murphy's are the three teams still in contention and after Sunday it could be a three way play off to decide the final pairing.
