Brendan Martin, after whom the All-Ireland senior ladies football championship trophy is named, has been chosen as the 2019 Offaly Person of the Year.

The Tullamore native was instrumental in organising the first All-Ireland ladies football championship in 1974 and purchased the cup which has been presented to the senior champions every year since. Last year, Dublin completed a three-in-a-row of Brendan Martin Cup successes in front of a record crowd of 50,141 at Croke Park.

Brendan will be presented with his award by the Offaly Association (Dublin) at a gala dinner dance in the Bridge House Hotel, Tullamore on Saturday, March 28.
