Kilkenny manager Brian Cody admits that he is glad to be planning for an All-Ireland SHC semi-final and not a quarterfinal.

That would have been the task facing the Cats if they had lost to Galway in last Sunday's Leinster SHC final, but once again, Kilkenny showed their class to lift their 70th provincial title.

The Kilkenny players return to club action this weekend, before they get down to work for the All-Ireland semi-final and Cody stressed to the Kilkenny People that is where they want to be.

"Preparing for that is a good thing," said Cody. "The alternative was to be looking at an All-Ireland quarterfinal, which is not what we wanted. Galway are there now.

"We will see the Munster final next Sunday and see who comes through there. There is a sorting process to be gone through over the next number of weeks and we will be ready for whoever we have to face.

"We are happy to avoid the quarterfinals. We wanted to be Leinster champions, of course and to make the All-Ireland semi-finals."
