Ballyhale Shamrocks manager Andy Moloney is delighted with the youngsters performance in the opening round of the SHL.

The defending SH champions were held to a draw with Rower-Inistioge at Thomastown last Saturday. Shamrocks opting to rest a lot of their older players including Henry Shefflin and Cha Fitzpatrick.

And despite the result, Moloney was pleased with the performance of the younger players who he felt performed very well.

"We gave a few lads a rest," Moloney told the Kilkenny People. "We are not being smart about things in a bad way. We are being smart in a good way. We are trying to give the older lads a bit of a break.

"We have good lads coming up who are mad for games. We couldn't try them before this, but they responded well to the challenge. They showed up well. The Rower were still the better team, but we still put 16 good points on the board. We are happy enough with the draw and point."
