The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Despite talk of transition, Brian Cody's Kilkenny continued where they left off in 2014 with an opening round league victory over hosts Cork last night.

Speaking to Setanta following his side's impressive 1-22 to 2-17 win, the Kilkenny manager commented: "It's very pleasing for certain, it's a very tight and competitive league so to start off with a win away from home is good.

"It was our first competitive game but the lads responded very well."

The game offered many of the fringe squad members a chance to show what they can do and Cody added:"Most of them have been around the panel for a long time.

"They know what's required, they know just to go out and apply themselves to it and it was a decent performance."

An opening weekend win sets the Cats up nicely for the defence of their league title?

"Last year we lost the first two games and still came back and qualified. There's no guarantees, every match is very competitive and we just take each day as it comes."
