Henry Shefflin has spoken of his delight at becoming the first player in the history of the GAA to win 10 All-Ireland senior medals.

The legendary forward replaced Hurler of the Year candidate Richie Hogan with 13 minutes remaining and set up Colin Fennelly for the last point of the game as Kilkenny edged out Tipperary on a 2-17 to 2-14 scoreline.

"It's been a roller-coaster career, a roller-coaster year. It's been absolutely magnificent," the 35-year-old told RTE immediately after the game.

"I'm just absolutely delighted to be still involved at this stage of my career, to be still involved in games like this, to be still a part of it, whether it's sitting up there in the dugout or out on the field. When you've two teams like Tipperary and Kilkenny playing hurling like that over the last two days, it's absolutely a joy to be involved in that kind of a situation.

Admitting that winning his 10th Celtic Cross was hugely satisfying, Shefflin insisted: "It was just about winning this All-Ireland and obviously whatever happens after, it's an extra bonus. We're absolutely delighted to come out on the right side of a great game again."

When asked if he would come back next year and try to win an 11th All-Ireland, Henry smiled: "I don't know about that to be honest. But I really am going to enjoy this, it's a brilliant victory, so looking forward to the celebrations."
