'A massive battle; a huge game'

Brian Cody praised Kilkenny's never-say-die attitude after they edged out Limerick to qualify for their 13th All-Ireland SHC final in 15 years.

"Obviously, we're very, very happy," the Cats boss said on RTE Radio.

"But it was a massive battle out there. It was a huge game. Limerick were excellent, they threw everything at us. They kept going and going and our response was outstanding as well.

"I suppose we could have had scores early on in the game. We created good chances and didn't take them. And they got on top a bit. But, you know, we came back and got a vital goal before half-time and when they came at us strongly in the second half, we got another great goal.

"So the response from our lads was outstanding all day - the effort and refusal to give in. I suppose that has been a hallmark of them for a long time."

He continued: "The goals were crucial because we were being pushed and pushed and pushed. It was a tough, tough day for hurling, but it's not a tough day to keep going."

Looking ahead to the All-Ireland final, the James Stephens clubman said: "It's a great place to be. We'll be able to sit back next week and watch Cork and Tipp play. Whoever we meet, it's going to be a ferocious battle."
