Fennelly a real concern for Cats

Michael Fennelly is a major doubt for Kilkenny's All-Ireland SHC semi-final on August 10th.

The former Hurler of the Year hasn't featured for the Cats in the championship since their Leinster opener against Offaly on June 7th.

He sat out both matches against Galway and was in the stand again on Sunday as Dublin were beaten in the provincial final at Croke Park.

The Ballyhale Shamrocks midfielder had been named on the original starting XV to face Galway but injured his back on the Friday before the game.

At first it was thought that he may have suffered a muscle spasm but it has transpired that the injury - which remains a mystery - is much more serious.

Fennelly has failed to respond to treatment, including two rounds of injections, and remains sidelined indefinitely. While he is pain free at present, he is unable to train or play and will miss his club's senior league clash with St Martin's tomorrow night (Friday).

Unless he returns to training within the next two weeks, Fennelly will almost certainly miss out on the All-Ireland semi-final date in a month's time against yet-to-be-determined opposition.
