Leinster IHC: Cats in control

June 28, 2012
Kilkenny 3-20
Wexford 2-14

Kilkenny were crowned Leinster intermediate hurling champions thanks to a nine-point victory over Wexford at Wexford Park last night.

The game was put beyond the home side's reach early in the second half when the Cats pounced for two quick-fire goals after leading 1-11 to 1-5 at the break. Niall Walsh, Paul Murphy and Walter Walsh pointed the visitors into an early 0-3 to 0-1 lead before Paudge Doran netted, after Liam Og McGovern's initial shot had been saved by Richie O'Neill, to bring Wexford level.

But Walsh responded with a sublime overhead goal and further scores from Rory Hickey, Walsh, Murphy and Cathal Kenny helped the Cats to open up a six-point lead at half-time.

And the game was up for Wexford when goals from Robbie Walsh and Hickey within five minutes of the restart propelled the Cats to another title in this grade.
