Fennelly injury concerns Cody
May 07, 2012
Brian Cody is keeping his fingers crossed that the ankle injury sustained by Michael Fennelly during yesterday's Allianz Hurling League final isn't serious.
The powerful midfielder went over on his ankle in the second half of the Cats' rout of Cork, and could be a doubt for next month's Leinster SHC semi-final against Dublin, Carlow or Laois. Full back JJ Delaney was also forced off with a dead leg at half-time, but is expected to be back within a couple of weeks. The Cats are already resigned to being without Richie Power for the start of the championship, while Henry Shefflin, Michael Rice and Noel Hickey are also currently on the injured list.
"We don't know yet (about Michael Fennelly), he went over on his ankle. How bad it is I don't know - to go off straight away without trying it suggests it's not too good, but hopefully it won't be too serious," Cody said after the game.
"JJ had a dead leg at half-time that swelled up badly and he wasn't able to continue."
Cody was typically understated in his assessment of the All-Ireland champions' performance.
"It was a good performance. I'm not trying to underplay it or overplay it, we went out and had a huge challenge. Cork were fancied by many people, understandably so, and the last day they were better than us.
"I'm very happy with the way the game went, to be honest with you."
