Power and Cats breathe collective sigh of relief

Richie Power has not suffered a cruciate ligament injury.

It was feared that the Kilkenny ace's season could have been over after he sustained a serious knee injury during Saturday's club league encounter between Carrickshock and James Stephens.

But a scan last night revealed that the cruciate is intact and that the player has suffered cartilage damage.

Power will undergo corrective surgery in Waterford today and is expected to return to intercounty action in four-to-six weeks.

From a position where it looked like he might play no part at all in the Cats' defence of the Leinster and All-Ireland SHC crowns, Power is now in a race to be fit for their June 23rd championship opener against either Laois, Carlow or Dublin.
