DJ released from hospital

Kilkenny legend DJ Carey
DJ Carey has been released from hospital after collapsing yesterday morning.

The five-time All-Ireland winning Kilkenny hurler was in a waiting area in Kilkenny city Garda station waiting to fill out forms when he collapsed after suffering a suspected heart attack. He was admitted to the coronary care unit of St Luke's Hospital in Kilkenny, where his condition last night was described as "comfortable".

His ex-wife Christine Preston confirmed to the Irish Daily Star that he hadn't suffered a heart attack as was initially feared.

"He had chest pains, but his heart is fine," she said.

"It's been an upsetting day because of all the stories going round but DJ is not at death's door or anything like that. Our sons Sean and Mike have been seeing this stuff on Facebook and on the radio about their father but his heart is fine.

"This was stress more than likely and that's all there is to it."

The Kilkenny People reported this afternoon that Carey has been released from hospital and given a clean bill of health pending the outcome of a series of tests that were carried out on him following his admission. The 41-year-old is expected to return to training with the Young Irelands intermediate team later this week.
