Nowlan Park in line to host NHL final

Nowlan Park Kilkenny
Nowlan Park will host the Allianz Hurling League final on May 6 if Kilkenny and Tipperary win their respective semi-finals on Sunday.

The Cats are strongly fancied to overcome Division 1B champions Clare, while Tipp will enter the second of the Semple Stadium semi-final double-bill as slight favourites to beat Cork. If a Kilkenny-Tipp final materialises, it is expected to be played in Nowlan Park due to a long standing 'home and away' agreement between the two counties.

And that would certainly be welcome news for the Kilkenny county board who would pocket at least €50,000 for hosting the decider, which is traditionally played in Croke Park or Thurles.

"There is an arrangement between the two counties that when they next meet in the final the match will be in Kilkenny," Kilkenny secretary Ned Quinn explained.

Meanwhile, Richie Hogan is expected to miss Sunday's game after sustaining a collapsed lung in the closing stages of the 25-point win over Galway two weeks ago, but Richie Power will be available after serving a suspension.
