Buggy blows Cats' trumpet

December 22, 2011
Kilkenny legend Paddy Buggy has lauded the county's senior hurlers as "some of the greatest individual players of all time".

Buggy, who was GAA President between 1982 and 1985, won an All-Ireland title with the Cats in 1957 and believes that Brian Cody's current crop are amongst the game's greatest ever players.

"Blowing your own trumpet is not a virtue, but it is hard to avoid it when speaking about the current Kilkenny players," Buggy said when addressing the annual County Convention.

"The successful run we have enjoyed over the past 12 years and more is unbelievable. We are watching some of the greatest individual players of all time, the greatest of them all."

The Slieverue clubman added that the team's success this year has helped to get Kilkenny die-hards through these tough economic times.

"It was great to be a Kilkenny person in 2011," he said. "This team of ours is very special, and example to the youth of the country. The enjoyment we get from watching it helps us forget our problems and the problems of the country. It puts a spring in our step."
