Hogan to visit specialist
August 27, 2010
Kilkenny centre back Brian Hogan will visit Waterford-based surgeon Tadhg O'Sullivan today to have his injured finger assessed.
There are fears that Hogan could miss Sunday week's All-Ireland final against Tipperary after he picked up the injury in Wednesday night's internal practice match in Nowlan Park, which was attended by 8,000 spectators. Hogan had just returned to training after recovering from the collarbone injury he sustained during the first half of the All-Ireland semi-final against Cork.
Kilkenny manager Brian Cody's options are hampered by the fact that fellow half back John Tennyson has only just resumed training after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.
Meanwhile, Henry Shefflin has shown no ill-effects from his high-profile return to training on Wednesday night following intensive treatment on the cruciate ligament tear he suffered against Cork and will start almost certainly the All-Ireland final if he comes through another training session tomorrow.
Kilkenny selector Martin Fogarty last night dismissed suggestions that the injury had been initially misdiagnosed.
"There is no question about that," he said. "He had a scan and it showed that he had severed his cruciate ligament."
Fogarty stressed that it was still too early to say if Shefflin and Tennyson would be fit to play in the final.
"It is far too early yet. We will just have to wait and see. The lads will have to see how their bodies have reacted to it and we will just have to see how they fare in the week ahead.
"What people must realise is that Henry's knee muscles were already very strong from all the work that he has done over his career."
