Carey hails Shefflin as best

Kilkenny legend DJ Carey
Hurling legend DJ Carey believes that Henry Shefflin is the greatest hurler that he has ever seen play.

Last Sunday saw Shefflin go to the top of the all-time championship scoring charts and with a few years left at the top, the Ballyhale Shamrocks clubman is set to stretch that record a lot further.

Carey won ever honour in the game during a glittering career and is also rated as one of the best that hurling has ever produced, but he is in no doubt about who his number one is.

"I think people are looking at the greatest hurler of all time," Carey wrote in the Kilkenny People. "I can only go back on my time, but in my time he is the outstanding player of the generation. I haven't seen anyone better.

"You have Nicky English, Joe Cooney, a few others and all the Kilkenny lads, but I think Henry is the top man."
