Shefflin poised to break scoring record

Kilkenny's Henry Shefflin
Nine-time Kilkenny All Star Henry Shefflin is on the brink of becoming the all time top-scorer in the All-Ireland senior hurling championship.

The Ballyhale Shamrocks ace has scored a total of 436 points (22-370) to date in his championship career and if he registers more than a mere 0-3 this Sunday in the Leinster SHC semi-final against Dublin he will smash the record of Eddie Keher, who currently leads the way with 439 points (35-334).

Shefflin's goal in last year's All-Ireland semi-final against Waterford saw him set a record in scoring at least one goal in 11 championship games in-a-row and in the final his late penalty swung the game against Tipperary for the Cats to equal Cork's record of four successive Liam McCarthy Cups.

It is almost inevitable that Shefflin will break Keher's record at Croke Park this weekend, and at the age of 31 and his form still outstanding it is also likely that it is one he will hold for some time.
