Kilkenny legend DJ Carey
Kilkenny hurling legend DJ Carey was on hand to offer the Australian cricket team hurling lessons at Croke Park yesterday.
The Australians were joined by their Irish counterparts at GAA headquarters as they warmed up for their RSA One Day International Challenge Match in Clontarf on Thursday. Both teams were put through their paces as they undertook a Long Puc competition under Carey's guidance. It was the first time Croke Park had hosted such an event.
Aussie cricket star Ricky Ponting said of the experience: "It has been great to get advice from some of the all-time greats.
"I'm not sure that it helped much, but the boys are trying their best. The first couple of hits went haywire. We've seen bits and pieces of hurling on television in Australia over the years.
"It's a very exciting game to watch. It's really fast and there's a really sweet contact off the stick."
