Brian Cody cut a content figure after Kilkenny opened their Division One defence with a win.

The league holders were far from their best as they brushed Offaly aside at Nowlan Park but the Top Cat was satisfied with their day's work bearing in mind that this was their first meaningful engagement of the year:

"It went fine. The lads played well for this time of the year, especially considering it was our first league outing.

"It was competitive most of the way. Maybe we pulled it out a bit in the second half, but it was still a good game to have under our belts.

"Offaly were very strong and they won a lot of ball, maybe even more than we did, among the forwards, although our backs were very strong and solid.
