"Their game plan is evolving and they're continuously improving"

Former Cork All-Ireland winner Diarmaid O’Sullivan reckons Limerick are undoubtedly at the top of the power rankings in hurling heading into this summer’s Liam MacCarthy Cup race.

The Shannonsiders collected their first Allianz Hurling League Division 1 title in 22 years last Sunday with victory over Waterford at Croke Park and O’Sullivan cites them as the team to beat at the moment, with Galway and Kilkenny just behind them.

“If I had to do power rankings, I’d go Limerick number one, Galway two and Kilkenny number three,” O’Sullivan told Paddy Power news.

“I reckon Kilkenny are in a far stronger position than people think heading into the championship. They got the Ballyhale Shamrocks (players) back in the squad now and that will energise them.

“Limerick are getting stronger. Their game plan is evolving and they’re continuously improving. At that rate of going, you’d have to make them favourites for this year’s All-Ireland title and you’d be foolish not to.

“As for Galway, Joe Canning’s injury is a big blow without question. But, it’s an opportunity for a guy in Galway who has been waiting for his chance to go to Micheál Donoghue and say ‘sorry, I’ve waited long enough and it’s my time now’.”
