Speculation in Kilkenny is increasing that Brian Cody will stay in charge of the county’s senior hurlers for a 20th consecutive year.

Cody took the role as Kilkenny manager in 1999 and has gone on to win eleven All-Ireland SHC titles, plus numerous other accolades.

The last couple of years have seen the Leinster side go through a transition period, but this year saw them capture the NHL title, Cody’s ninth win in this competition, while they reached the All-Ireland SHC quarterfinal where they were narrowly beaten by eventual champions Limerick.

Having retired as a primary school principle, Cody has been even more devoted to his role with the Kilkenny hurlers and the talk within the county is that he will be there for another year.

If Cody does stay, it will leave him four years behind Meath’s Sean Boylan's record breaking 23 years in charge of the Royals. Tyrone’s Mickey Harte has just completed 16 seasons with his native county.
