McGrath impressed by young cats

Waterford manager Derek McGrath is in no doubt that Kilkenny are certainly a force to be reckoned with in 2018.

Many have written off the Cats chances of All-Ireland glory, not only for this year, but for the next few campaigns, but McGrath saw enough in last Sunday's encounter between his charges and the Cats to suggest that they have a new breed coming through.

Kilkenny manager Brian Cody did bring back the likes of TJ Reid and Joey Holden for the clash against Waterford, but it was mainly an experienced side that picked up the win against the Deise.

"The win serves to highlight the actual depth of the talent in Kilkenny," McGrath told the Kilkenny People. "I made this point - a sincere point - during the week about Richie Leahy, Pat Lyng, Martin Keoghan; if they were in Waterford they'd be on the Waterford panel for the last couple of years.

"The problem in Kilkenny is that they are constantly compared to Henry Shefflin, Eddie Brennan and all those guys. Their panel is as serious as there is anywhere in the country."
