McGeeney glad to win
July 25, 2008
Kildare senior football manager Kieran McGeeney was indeed delighted to see his charges overcome Cavan on Saturday albeit thanks to a late James Kavanagh goal but the Armagh man would have been happier not to have to endure the final minutes drama that enfolded in St. Conleth's Park.
The manager was high in his praise of Mick Foley, the centre back who made that great run from defence that ended with the Ballymore Eustace man securing the victory. "In fairness to Mick Foley it was a fantastic run, he gave it to Dermot and it was a great finish from James Kavanagh. I'm disappointed we needed that type of drama at the end but I am not disappointed that we got it."
It pleased him that the team did register a considerable score of 1-16 and in his opinion the team needs to score adequately otherwise apparent domination can count for nothing as happened in a number of games during the league.
