Former Kildare captain Dermot Earley feels Mayo can cause an upset in Sunday week's All-Ireland SFC final provided certain key players step up to the plate.

Stephen Rochford's side are ranked as 3/1 underdogs against defending champions Dublin and while many expect the capital men to retain Sam Maguire, Earley thinks a shock could be on the cards.

"Whoever beats Dublin really has to match them on the day," Earley told The Irish News.

"On paper, you have to say Dublin will be the first team since Kerry to go back-to-back, but I just have a feeling it could be Mayo's year. I saw them play Kildare down in Castlebar and they've improved steadily in each game.

"But if they are to win it, they need massive performances. They need a 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer performance, a Seamie Callanan performance from the likes of Aidan O'Shea, Cillian O'Connor and Andy Moran. Throughout the whole team they need a massive, massive day."
