Murphy hits out at Kildare's 'keyboard warriors'

Kildare U21 manager Bryan Murphy

Bryan Murphy has taken a swipe at faceless people who use internet forums to criticise the Kildare footballers.

The Cork native, who scored the clinching goal in the Lilywhites' famous Leinster SFC final victory over Meath in 1998 and who has since managed the county's minor and U21 teams, blasted in the Irish Sun: "You have huge expectations and criticism of players and management on social media, where you have nameless warriors putting things up on websites.

"You'd think if they spent as much time working in their local club to help fellas develop, Kildare football would be better off.

"Kildare fans need to be patient and get behind what is a relatively young and inexperienced team. The burden of expectation within Kildare is such that it can be counter-productive.

"Instead of having the mind-set of getting on with being the best we can be, there's an expectation we should be winning trophies.

"Those things take time and people need to get behind our players and management."
