May 18, 2015

The Kildare Under 16 squad.

Kildare 3.13 Laois 0.06.

An Excellent Kildare team performance brushes aside Laois challenge.

Kildare u-16 girls were crowned Leinster  B champions yesterday afternoon after a convincing win over near neighbors Laois. The game was played in Athy Gaa club in front of a sizeable crowd that created a nice buzz around the ground.
The pitch was in pristine condition and with a very overcast afternoon and  small sprinkle of rain the game got underway.

Kildare were out of the blocks straight away with a point from Neasa Dooley quickly followed by an Aine Nash point making an impact on her return from Injury. Laois were finding it hard to compete with the home side such was their dominance and strength on the ball. Kildare tagged on more points from Neassa Dooley, Nanci Murphy and Kayleigh Humphries. The 1st goal of the game coming from the boot of Humphries cutting in from the left wing to shoot past Lydia Darley with the Kildare supporters erupting in cheers as the ball hit the back of the net.
Laois 1st score of the game came from Naomi Luttrell kicking her point from distance as the wind carried it over the bar. That Score from Luttrell stung the Kildare side and for  the next 15 minutes went on a scoring spree converting 1.05 without reply. Humphries,Nicole and Neassa Dooley, Roisin Forde and Humphries again for her 2nd goal of the game after trojan work by Aine Nash drawing the Laois backs to her leaving Humphries in space  to score from close range. Laois when the did break forward were met with a strong Kildare resistance with Emily McGrory making  a double save keeping her goal in tact. Laois did have the final say of the half with a point from Emma Lawlor to leave the half time score Kildare 2.10 Laois 0.02.

Laois came out in the 2nd half with a bit more fight and determination about them but unfortunately for them could not manage to convert their early chances kicking four wides in succession. Erone Fitzpatrick and Emma Lawlor were constantly knocking at the Kildare back lines door but  Alanna McLoughlin, Roisin McConnon and Lara Gilbert were having a terrific game on the Laois danger woman, disrupting their play at every opportunity.Kildare's Roisin Forde pointed the 1st score of the 2nd half with Humphries pointing a free and she was on for her hat trick when a ball was played over the top as  she caught turned and shot she was put off by the advancing keeper to see her effort go just wide of the post. Aoife Stapleton having covered every blade of grass on the pitch from Back, midfield and up front, carried the ball from half way danced and slipped around a multitude of tackles to get her shot off and hit the back of the Laois net. Laois did cancel out that goal with 3 pointed frees from Fitzpatrick and another point from Lawlor but it was to be Kildare's day with Kate hannon converting the final score of the game with a point from the 21 to joyous celebrations at the final whistle Kildare winning on a final score of Kildare 3.13 Laois 0.06.

Kildare will now advance to the All Ireland semi final in a few weeks time where they will face a tough test against Waterford. That game is far from the thoughts of these girls as they can thoroughly enjoy this win before getting back into training next Sunday.
Commiserations to Laois unfortunately for them they were put on the back foot early in the game and found it tough going to cope with Kildare's strength and fitness levels. Although the winning margin was high it does not reflect the 2nd half performance from Laois never giving up and fighting until the final whistle.
