McManamon gracious in defeat

December 10, 2014

Straffan manager Kieran McManamon admitted that his side were probably beaten by the better team in last Sunday's Leinster club JFC final.

The Kildare side travelled to Cusack Park, Mullingar where they faced Westmeath champions Moate in the provincial decider.

However, they struggled to cope with the pace of their opponents, especially in the first half and it proved costly for Straffan who did battle hard in the second half.

"I suppose in time we might look back on it and say it was a good year coming from where we came from at the beginning of the year, but obviously our lads are absolutely gutted. I've no major complaints, the better team probably won," McManamon told the Leinster Leader.

"There is no substitute for speed and they had serious pace and we were maybe a bit shell-shocked the way they came at us in the first ten minutes."
