Mixed emotions for Kelly

Coill Dubh manager and Kiltale clubman Paddy Kelly

It has been a bittersweet week for Kiltale clubman Paddy Kelly so far.

Last Sunday, the former Meath hurler guided huge underdogs Coill Dubh to their first Kildare senior hurling championship title in eleven years.

Kelly's charges defeated defending champions Celbridge in an enthralling encounter at Hawkfield last weekend, but his joy turned to despair on Monday night.

As the only nominee for the Meath senior hurling manager's job, Kelly looked certain to take over from Cillian Farrell. However, the Meath Executive decided to look outside the clubs' nomination and another ex-Meath hurler Martin Ennis was appointed as manager.

The news was a huge blow to Kelly who has worked tirelessly at underage and adult level to promote the game of hurling in the county.
