Minor football
Well done to the minor team who created history by winning the division 2 league title for the third year running. Leixlip were first on the score board with a point from Robert Tone. Castledermot replied with a 45 from Aaron Murphy and a well taken point from Eugene Mahon. Leixlip dominated the first 15 minutes and added another 6 unanswered points to lead 0-8 to 0-2. Castledermot came to life and kicked 5 points(one from Murphy and four from Mahon) to go in at the break 0-9 to 0-7 down. The start of the second half saw both teams exchange points. Dave Dooley in the Castledermot goal had a busy afternoon making a string of terrific saves, but there was nothing he could do when the Leixlip full forward burst through and found the back of the net to stretch the lead 1-10 to 0-8. It was'nt looking good for Castledermot at this stage, but our lads didnt read the script. Slowly but surely they got themselves back into it with 3 points from Eugene Mahon and a point from John Joe Mahon to bring them to within a point. When Eoghan Farrell won the ball in the middle of the pitch there was only one place it was going, he sent a great ball into the path of Aaron Murphy, who turned his marker and rattled the back of the net. Castledermot dominated the rest of the game with points from Mahon, Murphy and Adrian Kelly and were 7 points up going into injury time when the ref awarded a questionable penalty to Leixlip. Dooley was unlucky,he went the right way but the ball rebounded off the post and the Leixlip man made no mistake. Credit to Leixlip, they never gave up and won the ball on the kick out, put a few passes together and once again left Dooley with no chance. Castledermot stood up to the challenge and ran out deserved winners on a scoreline of 1-18 to 3-11. Well done to all the lads and well done to mentor Tony Gray and selectors Ollie Murphy and Keith Murphy. Best of luck tothe lads as they prepare for the minor A championship.

Rathangan led for most of the rest of the game but the girls in blue never gave up and came back from a 7 point defecit with 2 points in succession from Shauna Doyle followed by 2 goals from Catherine Horan.
