"Dark days" over for Conway

Kildare's Mikey Conway
Mikey Conway is happy to leave his dark days behind him.

Sidelined for two years by a persistent patella tendon problem, the Nurney clubman is now back in the Kildare fold and gave an exhibition of centre forward play during Sunday's Division Two final defeat of Tyrone at Croke Park.

He told the Irish Daily Star that he's relieved to be back: "Yeah, after some dark days over the years. It's great to be back running freely around the pitch without injury.

"There were days I thought I wouldn't play again because it wasn't getting any better for about six months after the operation. In fact, the patella tendon was getting worse.

"I went to Sweden twice and got the operation and that looked after it, so ever since I haven't looked back.

"But there was a time I thought I'd never get back. It's positive. I'm playing without any pain."
