Rheban club notes

Rheban GFC's AGM was held on Friday last in the town hall.Chairman Dick Maher began with thanking all those who had attended ,he reviewed the clubs 2011 season and thanked everyone for their efforts .Secretary/Treasurer Eddie Maher began with reading out last years minutes he then proceeded to give a comprehensive report on the clubs finances and detailing all income and expenditure for the previous year.Thanks was given for the fantastic support and generosity by all the sponsors,ticket sellers and fundraisers despite the difficult economic times we live in. The Chairman and Secretary both on behalf of the entire club offered deepest sympathies and condolences for all who had died during the year with special mention for the late Eamon Johnson RIP former Player and member whose recent passing was deeply felt within the club.May they rest in peace.
The election of Club officers and committee began with the following members elected:Presidents;J Maher,B Tierney,Chairman D Maher,Vice Chairman M Renehan,Secretary/Treasurer E Maher,Assistant Sec/Treas S Dempsey,PRO P Casey,Youth Officer V Fitzimons,County Delegate D Maher,Committee:C Germaine,C Quinn,M Germaine,A Casey,M Eustace,D Fitzpatrick,P Casey,A Shaw,N Foley,K Shaughnessy,J A Foley,J Delaney,V Fitzimons,J Dooley.
The meeting closed with various new proposals,ideas and plans put forward for the coming year and Chaiman Dick Maher thanking everyone once again for their efforts in all levels of the club and wished them every success for the coming season.
Rheban GFC membership is now due Adult membership is 20e with a Family Membership available for 30e,ALL underage Kids are Free membership.Training for U10, 12s and 13s starts this Sat 4th Feb at 11am all new members are welcome.
After the fantastic response from Kildare and Dublin fans last week for the Rheban GFC's Luke Renehan Fundraiser the club once again witnessed the fantastic generosity not just of the Gaa community but of people from all walks of life on Saturday morning when the club held another fundraiser to try and help Little Luke get Stem cell treatment abroad.
The 10k/5k Run was a huge success with a massive 213 runners and walkers taking part,from seasoned athletes,Walkers to Mammys and Daddys everyone had a great day.Thank you also to the several clubs who took part in the run it was great to have your support for this worthy cause well done.Thanks must also go in particular to all the organizers,stewards,Civil defense contributors and helpers whose fantastic work helped make the run possible ,already word is spreading of how well the run was handled,so well done to all concerned.
Rheban Gfc would like to congratulate Athy community college u14s who today became the u14 South Leinster Champions in a thrilling game against Avondale CC from Wicklow.Rheban would like to extend Particular congratulations to our own Dean Carthy,Conor Germaine and Jordan Leigh who all played brilliantly.In one of the most spectacular comebacks ever seen the college were 12pts down with about 8mins to go,a massive fightback from the team culminated in Conor grabing the equalising goal with the last kick of the game propelling this young side to drive on and score 1-5 in the first half of extra time ,leaving a gallant Avondale stunned, thats a whopping 20point turnaround without reply.Dean Carthy scored 2great points playing out of midfield,Conor Germaine who was Captain scored a brilliant 2-6.Rhebans number 1 Jordan Leigh also minded the net for the college playing fantastic as is the norm from Jordan.So well done to the team and all involved.
