McGeeney preparing to face strong Dublin outfit
January 18, 2012
Kieran McGeeney doesn't subscribe to the view that Dublin aren't taking the O'Byrne Cup seriously.
The Kildare manager expects the All-Ireland champions to bring an unusually strong team for this time of year to Newbridge on Sunday for their televised semi-final clash.
He said: "People are saying that Dublin aren't putting out much of a team but I was looking at the scorers (from their victory over UCD last Saturday) and Kevin McManamon, Diarmuid Connolly...they seem fairly regular to me.
"He (Pat Gilroy) is probably no different to ourselves. He's probably looking at three or four positions. Dublin keep to the same structure, the same gameplan relentlessly and it's one people find very hard to break down."
The former Armagh captain is expecting Sunday's game to test St. Conleth's capacity, which has been reduced to just 6,500 following the findings of the Slattery Report.
"Hopefully we'll get a good crowd here and get a good atmosphere. That's one thing that Newbridge has going for it with the close proximity to the pitch, you can get a pulsating atmosphere. So hopefully we'll put up a good performance."
