Club championships delayed
August 13, 2010
The Kildare senior, intermediate and junior football championships will be delayed until after the outcome of the All-Ireland senior football semi-final between the Lilywhites and Down on August 29.
Just two rounds of the club championships have taken place to date, and it would appear that no further games will take place until Kildare's involvement in the All-Ireland SFC is complete.
Quoted in the Leinster Leader, Martin Heydon, the secretary of senior champions St Laurence's, said, "There are 44 clubs in the county and on average those clubs have panels of 24 players making over 1,000 players and they have given great commitment.
"The most important thing we need to do is get a balance between playing the club championship and the county team. We all hope Kildare beat Down but if that happens we're looking at two months with no club fixtures."
