Keogh Cup: Ballyteague V Kill in Ballyteague Friday 12/03/10.

Ballyteague recorded their second win in a week in the Keogh Cup, by defeating Kill at home on Friday night. On a fine, calm night in Ballyteague, the "Larks" again proved two strong for their opponents, when they defeated a Kill side who, in fairness to them, never gave up.

There was a minutes silence at the start of this game as a mark of respect to the late Jim Cross, who was a past player with Ballyteague. A point from a free by Stephen Connolly opened the "Larks" account. A great point from play from Jason Mooney and another Stephen Connolly free, left Ballyteague three points up without reply.

Two points from full forward, S. OíLeary, one from a free and one from play and a point from play from D oíKelly opened the scoring for Kill.

Even though he was very tightly marked, Gavin smullen managed two great points from play. two points from the very fit and in flying form Seamus Hanafin and a point from Stephen Connolly also from play left Ballyteague well in control at half time. In spite of trying very hard, with some great sweeping movements up the field, kill couldínt manage another score. This was due to some excellent defending by Ballyteague. The most positive aspect for Ballyteague from the first half was the fact that six of their eight points came from play.

Half time score: Ballyteague 0 ñ 08, Kill 0 ñ 03. Kill began the second half in a very positive manner and had two quick points from D. OíKelly and S. OíLeary both from frees. Ballyteague had a point from a free by Stephen Connolly and a point from play from Jason Mooney. Kill at this stage brought on fours substitutes and following a spell of strong pressure, they were awarded a penalty, which was duly converted. This was Killís best spell of the game. They had another point from play by A. Finnerty and had lots of possession but failed to convert it into scores. Ballyteague responded with a fine point from Kevin Murphy, who had made a great break from the half back line, one of many runs he had made during the game. A point from a free by Stephen Connolly and a point from play >from Gavin Smullen finished the Ballyteague scoring for the evening. Substitutes for Ballyteague were Sean Jacob, Barry Dempsey and Michael Herbert.

Referee: Tony Doyle, Moorefield.
