The Larks shine under lights!

This Keogh Cup match was played in Ballyteague on a very cold but dry evening under lights. The match had been postponed from Saturday due to a bereavement In Nurney. Both sides were short regular players and the younger players who played Showed that they will be challenging for first team places.

Ballyteague got off to a great start with a goal from Gavin Smullen which followed good team work to get the ball out of defence. Smullen scored another goal shortly afterwards and this was followed by a point from him to leave Ballyteague 2 - 01 up before Brian Cahill scored a fine point for Nurney. The sides exchanged scores, a point from play from Nurneyís Andrew Behan and Pat Higginbottom and a point from a free from Behan left Nurneyís half time score at 0 04. Three fine points from frees for Ballyteague from the boot of Stephen Connolly and one each from play, from Smullen and Derek Mooney left the Ballyteague score at half time at 2 - 06.
In the second half Nurney had an early point from Andrew Behan from a free and Gavin Smullen had two great points from play for Ballyteague. Following a great move up the field and some great defending from Ballyteague, Nurney were awarded a 45 and they scored a goal and the game came to life for a little while. However Ballyteague dug deep and with the younger players really trying hard, the scores came for the ìLarksî. Four from frees for Stephen Connolly and one from Jason Mooney. Nurney replied with two from frees for Andrew Behan. Credit is due to the players who togged out on an extremely cold evening and indeed to the large crowd who came to support them.

The final score was Ballyteague 2 - 13 and Nurney 1 - 07.
