Ballykelly Club Notes
March 08, 2010Congratulations to Ballykellys Joanne Kelly who this week won an All Ireland Varsities soccer final while playing for Tralee IT against DCU of Dublin. Well done from all in the club.
The senior lads made it two wins from two played in the Keogh Cupwhen they saw off Straffan in a hard fought battle. In what as their first competitive match in the new Stephen O Rourke Memorial park they played some sublime football early on and built up a lead only to see Straffan make a late charge and leave just the minimum between the sides at the final whistle. They now go on to meet Killcullen in their final group match hoping to make to latter stages of the competition.

Our Minor team were defeated on Sunday morning in the third round of the minor league. In what was a very sporting match by both sides it was Monasterevin who got out of the blocks early and built up a lead. Despite improving greatly in the second half Ballykelly couldn't reel them back in. Both sides are now level on points in the league so its still all to play for. The u16s lost their opening round of the league on Saturday to St Oliver Plunkets.
The offical opening of the Stephan O Rourke Memorial park was confirmed over the weekend. Its going to be on the 16th May and promises to be a great occasion for the members of the Club. The Kildare Senior team will be taking the field in the Club on the weekend with the opposition yet to be confirmed. Full details of the weekend will be posted as soon as the Club have it organised.
Congratulations to our own Anita Dunne,Niamh Sinnott and Aishling Friel who confirmed this week to the Kildare Minor Ladies panel for the coming year. Well done Girls and we look forward to seeing you in a County Jersey this year
Congratulations to our own John Lawler who this week was confirmed as making the Kildare Minor panel for the coming year. John has been involved at County level since he was 13 and the Club would like to wish him well and we look forward to seeing him in action in Croke Park this year. This is our third year running that we have had a player on the Kildare Minor panel following Padraic Cullen in 09 and Daryl Cullen in 08. Well done John from all in Ballykelly Gfc
Congratulations to Ballykellys Roisin O Connell who has made the Kildare Camogie panel. Well done to her from all in Ballykelly.
Membership is now due for all members of the club. Membership is as follows : Adult E30 Students Oap's E15 Family Membership E50 Payment can be made to the treasurer or contact any Committee member of the club.
The hall is now available for bookings. There is currently Yoga and Bodyball Classes there every Tuesday at 10-11am and 6-8 and Wednesday 12-1pm. If you are interested and would like to take the hall for a Class contact Barbara (087) 9565897
Ballykelly have chosen a range of Club gear which can be worn by playing and non playing members within the Club. Hoodies,Jackets,Tracksuits,Polo tops can all be purchased in Earleys Fashion Shop on Main St and would make an ideal Birthday present.
The Astroturf pitches in Ballykelly gfc are now open for buisness. For bookings call 0852486051 monday to Friday from 6pm to 10pm and it will also be open weekends
