Something for the kids at the GAA Museum
February 09, 2010
Parents racking their brains for activities to keep the kids busy during the Midterm Break will be relieved to hear that GAA Museum has organised a week of dedicated events for families with young children during February.
Starting on Monday 15th of February, young visitors to the Museum will have to have their wits about them as their tour guide might be telling lies. Kids are invited to come along on the 'Telling Tall Tales Tour' every day at 2.30pm to see if they can tell when guides are telling porkies or when they are actually telling the truth!
On Saturday 20th February, the GAA Museum will host the second in their new monthly series of KidZone Gallery Talks. These events offer young GAA fans an opportunity to become 'Museum Detectives' and investigate famous GAA matches, teams and events through the museum's exhibits.
The theme of February's KidZone talk, entitled 'The Star-Spangled Final', will focus on the 1947 All-Ireland Football Final which was played in the Polo Grounds Stadium in New York City! This is the only All-Ireland Final ever to be played outside of Ireland and on this historic day Cavan fought off Kerry with a final score line of 2-11 to 2-7. Kids will discover how teams travelled to New York all those years ago, what the weather was like, how much it cost to attend the match, try on old jerseys and finally design their very own match poster.
