Minors face Meath test this Saturday
June 25, 2009
Kildare's minor footballers take on Meath this Saturday in Navan, where a place in the Leinster MFC decider will be at stake for both sides.
The Royals are the defending champions of the eastern province and Kildare selector Christy Byrne is well aware that they will represent a different prospect to his team than Wicklow and Wexford, who the Lilywhites both defeated to book their place in the last four.
"They (the players) are moving well at the moment and we've had two good wins so we want to keep that going. They are playing good football but Meath are going to be a different kettle of fish," said Byrne.
"Meath are a good side they are Leinster champions so it is going to be a huge step up. We know Meath have a good few from last year's team and they are big and strong but we're up for the battle. It would be brilliant if there were two Kildare teams in a Leinster final but we can't look that far ahead."
Meath have three of the team that captured the 2008 Leinster title left over from last season, but minor championship football is notoriously unpredictable.
The two sides clash this Saturday at Pairc Tailteann, Navan where the throw-in time has an early scheduling of 2.00pm.
