Late Waters goal gives Towers the points
June 25, 2009
Round Towers 2-7
St Laurence's 0-11
An injury-time goal from Barry Waters saw Round Towers gain a valuable win last Saturday in Oldgrange while knocking St Laurence's off the top of the SFL Division One table.
Glenn Ryan's penalty proved the difference between the sides as Towers went in at the break, leading by the slenderest of margins, 1-4 to 0-6.
After the break Lars hit four points without reply to move into the lead, thanks to overs from Mossy Doyle, John Fogarty and Shaun Fahy. Ryan pulled one back for the would-be winners, and when substitute Niall Cleary kicked over a brace of points the game was squared.
Lars looked as though they had snatched victory with a late point, but down the other end Padraig Mullarkey delivered a perfect pass to Waters, who finished straight to the back of the net past Shane Connolly to steal the win.
