Ballykelly Club Notes

June 22, 2009
Good luck to Ballykellys Pauric Cullen this weekend as he takes to the field for the Kildare minor team in the Leinster semi final against Meath in Navan The u14 boys drew in Ballykelly on Sunday morning against a very dogged Confey team . Final score Ballykelly 2.6 Confey 2.6. This point keeps the lads near the top of the table as they approach the last league match v Robertstown on Wednesday evening. The u12 girls came up short in the league final on Friday evening when they were defeated on a scoreline of Ballykelly 2.4 Ellistown 3.3.They can be very proud of their achievement though as this Ballykelly team is a very young team . Well done to Eoghin o Neill and Niamh Lawless for srcuring promotion with this group The u12 boys left it late in the game but returned to winning ways in the 5th round of the league v Allenwood. Final score Ballykelly 4.4 Allenwood 2.8. Next up is a home tie v Castlemitchel on Tuesday evening. The senior men continued their fine form in the league when they had a comfortable victory over Celbridge on Saturday. Final score Ballykelly 1.16 Celbridge B 0.6. This win keeps them firmly in contention as they approach the last 2 matches in the league. Next up is an away tie v Cappagh on Tuesday evening We have completed our player profile on all our u14 Feile players for the National Feile which will be held on the weekend of the 3rd July. To view these profiles log on to www.ballykellygfc.ie and go to player profiles The u14 boys had a fine victory on Wednesday evening when they defeated Leixlip on a scoreline of Ballykelly 3.15 Leixlip 3.6 This win keeps Ballykelly firmly in contention in the league with 4 wins from 5 played with 2 rounds to go. Best on the day were in goals Eoin Mcdonagh tommy Gratten Lee Moore Adam o Flaherty and Eoin Sinnott next up is an away tie v Robertstown The under 14 girls team had a superb victory on Wednesday night in Rosglas defeating last years winners Athy 1-7 to 2-3. Both these teams met in last years under 13 final with Athy edging out Ballykelly on that occasion mainly due to the finishing of Athys full forward Mikaela nolan. On this occasion though, for the first time in over three years Mikaela was held goal-less largely due to the excellent defending of Ballykellys Stephanie Ryan. Ryan pressured the Athy forward all night and was ably assisted by the superb Katelyn Lawlor and Tracey Greed. Ciara Fitzpatrick in goals dealt with most things well as did backs Eimear Clarke,Sophie Kavanagh and Rachel Broughan.Rachel tired towards the end of a hard fought game and was replaced by the competant Katie Lawler. The mid-field battle was won easily by the Ballykelly duo of Niamh Fahey and the non-stop dynamo Michelle Morrissey. Alanna McLoughlin eventually replaced Niamh in the middle of the pitch and frustrated Athys every move. Up front Eva Houlihan scored her now familiar screamer of a goal while Ailish Heavey dictated all that happened in the forward line. Ailish's work was well enhanced by the ever alert Michelle Cullen,Niamh Forde,Lauren Delahunt and Claire Melia. Aideen Connolly replaced Niamh Forde in full forward and performed wery well. Tara Harrisson and Amy Nash who have an under 12 semi-final on Monday were retained as subs on the night as was new recruit Jade Kelly The senior ladies championship training is now in full swing and after hours of relentless effort the players are starting to look extermely fit and sharp.Training continues every Wednesday and Friday at 7.00pm in the new grounds at present and we look forward to welcoming back all those who were doing exams over the past while. New players are always welcome--contact Ladies Secretary David Tormey--086-8808273 The u12 girls finished their league campaign with a well deserved victory over Celbridge on Monday evening on a scoreline of Ballykelly 4.5 Celbridge 2.2.
