McGeeney critical of free count

Kildare boss Kieran McGeeney
Kieran McGeeney was highly critical of the free count against Kildare in Saturday night's Leinster SFC quarter-final victory over Wexford. Meath referee Cormac Reilly awarded Wexford 30 frees as opposed to just eight to Kildare, with the Lilywhites getting only three frees in the second half. "You have to ask questions," the Kildare manager said. "It's great to win two games on the trot in the championship. We let them back a bit although it was a much-improved Wexford side. "But the frees against us - I just don't understand that. We work exceptionally hard on our tackling." McGeeney once again dismissed the notion that Kildare are an over-physical team. "I'd ask any referee to stand over the validity of those (frees). When defenders are going in, it can go against you sometimes and you accept those, but there is no way Kildare are an aggressive team - no way. Tackling is something we work very hard on. "I'm not saying that referee did it today, but maybe referees see it as their job to make a game of it sometimes."
