Westmeath booked an O’Byrne Cup semi-final date with Longford courtesy of a six-point victory over Kildare at The Downs today.

The Lake County prevailed by 1-13 to 1-7 against the Lilywhites who finished with 14 men after Pascal Connell was dismissed just before half-time.

David Slattery’s 19th minute goal boosted the visitors into a 1-5 to 0-7 interval lead but that was cancelled out by Joe Halligan within a minute of the resumption.

With Ger Egan catching the eye, Jack Cooney’s charges made the most of their numerical advantage in the second-half.

The Tyrrellspass clubman top scored for the winners with 0-6 (three from play).
