O'Shea: All-Ireland always ultimate goal
August 22, 2008
Kerry manager Pat O'Shea has insisted that from the very beginning of this year a winning a third All-Ireland title on the trot was always the goal.
The Kingdom lost their Munster title Cork this summer, but have the chance to avenge that defeat and take their place in a fourth consecutive All-Ireland SFC decider in as many years this Sunday at Croke Park.
"Over the last two years, this team has gone to the well again and again, and it's difficult to keep winning game after game," said O'Shea.
"You do tend to learn more from a loss. Physically we had to improve after the Munster final, and we've done that. But the Championship was always going to be about the All-Ireland this year."
Since their win over quarter-final win over Galway, O'Shea's men gave been playing internal trial games behind close doors in preparation for the Rebels clash, insisting that challenge games against other counties can often be 'worthless'.
"We use them for their intensity. They are high-paced affairs which can tell us who is moving well. Challenge games against other counties are often worthless, because they give you a false reading of where you are," he added.
