O'Mahony lauds Ó Sé's hunger

August 20, 2008
Kerry defender Aidan O'Mahony has praised midfield veteran Darragh Ó Sé for the hunger he has displayed in this his 15th All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. The centre-back had admitted that many of the Kerry players draw their inspiration from Ó Sé and that when he plays well at the centre of the field for the Kingdom the rest of team, more often than not, follow. "If you look at the players you have around you, particularly Darragh Ó Sé he has been there I suppose 15 seasons. He can spur you on. I mean you talk about hunger and here is a guy playing in his 15th Championship. "I don't think it is for the younger players like me to be questioning hunger. You just have to look at him and he is an inspiration to us all around him. "A lot of people were questioning his age and would he have the legs. He is a big game player and there is always a feeling that if you told him he was finished he'd go out the following Sunday and prove you wrong. "He is a massive player for us and when Darragh plays well the team plays well especially around midfield. "He can pull a ball out of the sky when games get tight and he really leads. All the players draw inspiration from him and we are just happy to have him there." O'Mahony himself is currently suffering a damaged shin, but he is most likely to play through the pain barrier and have an operation when Kerry's Championship campaign concludes. "Once you get in there is a hype about it and you forget about the injuries and you just play on."
